Extracurricular activities

We offer students a wide variety of extracurricular activities that foster their academic, social, and personal growth and enhance their cultural and environmental awareness.

The pride of taking part in fundraising campaigns, the sense of responsibility that comes from organizing galas and the Grad Ball, and the motivation to succeed are just a few examples of what students can gain from these activities. Most of these activities are offered to both English and French sectors and are carried out in a bilingual environment.

Color Run for the Cure

On May 31st, Villa Maria held its traditional Color Run for the Cure for the breast cancer cause.

It was a very emotional day where we raised $24,000 for the Cedars Cancer Foundation Breast Clinic. In addition, to raise awareness about cancer, our students had the opportunity to attend a conference by Dr. Sylvie Mader on breast cancer research and a presentation by Dr. David Fleiszer on recognizing signs of breast cancer.

5e Acte

The 5e Acte at Villa Maria once again illuminated our hearts and minds with “Une fraction de l’histoire”, a play that transcended the boundaries of imagination.

On April 19, our talented graduates took to the stage to deliver a captivating performance, exploring the surprising discoveries of five students, challenging their understanding of the world. With a skillfull combination of imagination, fantasy and philosophical musings, the play transported the audience on an exciting adventure, culminating in a heartwarming ending that left a lasting impression. With a masterful command of theatrical art, they brought vibrant characters to life, exploring bold ideas.

"Black Art Series"

We had the incredible privilege of enjoying a private and intimate tour of Stanley Wany's exhibition Unpredictable Spaces at Galerie de l’UQAM.

Supported by movements of thought on Black identity, the exhibition is grounded in the cultural ecosystem of the Antilles and becomes a site of “creolization,” an unpredictable space created out of the encounter between different perspectives.

Welcome Camp

240 of the new secondary 1 students were greeted by Villa Maria staff and secondary 5 student monitors at the Centre de plein air le P’tit Bonheur to celebrate the start of their new academic journey in high school.

Over the two days, they got to know each other while engaging in a variety of outdoor activities like kayaking, hebertism, canoeing, and even learning survival skills. Villa Maria’s annual welcome camp is meant for new students to connect with each other while under the wing of our secondary 5 students, who are there to make them feel at home within the Villa family. We all had a blast!

Reach for the Top

This year, for the first time in its history, Villa Maria formed a team for the Canada-wide “Reach for the Top” trivia tournament.

Seven talented Secondary 4 and 5 students have been meeting since November 2023, covering topics from 12th-grade Math, Science, World History, Literature, Pop Culture, and Video Games. Competing against CEGEP and other high school teams in the provincial playoffs this past April, Villa Maria qualified for the Nationals in Ottawa! On June 1st and 2nd, our students played 11 games against 15 very experienced teams from across the country. They were competitive and never gave up. Their knowledge, enthusiasm, and positive attitude impressed both their competitors and their coach.

Défi Génie Inventif

On April 6, our brilliant students excelled at the regional finals of the prestigious Défi Génie Inventif ÉTS 2024, an exciting science competition orchestrated by Réseau Technoscience in partnership with the Villa Maria Science Department.

During this thrilling day of engineering and creativity that took place right in our school, our teams competed with their ingenuity in four tight rounds of the “Curb Your Ardors!” competition. Imagine designing and testing prototype vehicles made entirely from recycled materials and equipped with sophisticated braking systems. At the same time, our students had the opportunity to participate in exciting workshops hosted by Bombardier, as well as drone piloting activities.
