Extracurricular activities

We offer students a wide variety of extracurricular activities that foster their academic, social, and personal growth and enhance their cultural and environmental awareness.

The pride of taking part in fundraising campaigns, the sense of responsibility that comes from organizing galas and the Grad Ball, and the motivation to succeed are just a few examples of what students can gain from these activities. Most of these activities are offered to both English and French sectors and are carried out in a bilingual environment.

Color Run for the Cure

On May 31, Villa Maria held its traditional Colour Run in support of breast cancer research.

It was a deeply moving day that raised $24,000 in support of the Cedars Cancer Foundation Breast Clinic. In addition, to raise awareness about cancer, our students had the opportunity to attend a presentation by Dr. Sylvie Mader on breast cancer research, as well as a talk by Dr. David Fleiszer on recognizing the signs of breast cancer.

5^e Acte

The 5e Acte at Villa Maria once again illuminated our hearts and minds with A Fraction of the Story, a production that transcended the boundaries of imagination.

On April 19, our talented graduating students took the stage to deliver a captivating performance, exploring the surprising discoveries of five students who challenged their understanding of the world. Through a skillful blend of imagination, fantasy, and philosophical reflection, the production carried the audience on a compelling journey, culminating in a warm and heartfelt ending that left a lasting impression. With masterful command of the theatrical arts, the students brought vibrant characters to life while exploring bold and thought-provoking ideas.

''Black Art Series''

We had the incredible privilege of enjoying a private and intimate visit to Stanley Wany’s Unpredictable Spaces exhibition at the UQAM Gallery.

Guided by currents of thought on Black identity, the exhibition is rooted in the cultural ecosystem of the Caribbean and positions itself as a space of “creolization” — an unpredictable environment born from the meeting of diverse perspectives.

Welcome Camp

Incoming Secondary 1 students were welcomed by the Villa Maria staff and Secondary 5 student leaders at the Welcome Camp to celebrate the beginning of their new academic journey in high school.

Over two days, students got to know one another while taking part in a variety of outdoor activities such as kayaking, aerial obstacle courses, canoeing, and even learning basic survival skills. Villa Maria’s annual welcome camp is designed to help new students build connections while being guided by our Secondary 5 students, who are there to help them feel at home within the Villa family. Everyone had a great time!

Reach for the Top

Villa Maria formed a team to compete in the pan-Canadian trivia tournament Reach for the Top.

Seven talented Secondary 4 and Secondary 5 students have been meeting regularly since November 2023, tackling topics such as mathematics, science, world history, literature, pop culture, and Grade 12–level video games. Competing against CEGEP teams and other high schools during the provincial qualifiers last April, Villa Maria earned a spot at the national championships in Ottawa. On June 1 and 2, our students played 11 matches against 15 highly experienced teams from across the country. They remained competitive and never gave up. Their knowledge, enthusiasm, and positive attitude impressed both their opponents and their coach.

Défi Génie Inventif

On April 6, our outstanding students distinguished themselves at the regional finals of the prestigious ÉTS 2024 Inventive Engineering Challenge, an exciting science competition organized by Technoscience Network in collaboration with Villa Maria’s Science Department.

During this thrilling day of engineering and creativity, held right here at our school, our teams showcased their ingenuity in the four intense rounds of the “Slow Your Roll!” competition. Imagine this: they designed and tested vehicle prototypes made entirely from recycled materials, equipped with sophisticated braking systems. At the same time, our students had the opportunity to take part in engaging workshops led by Bombardier, as well as drone piloting activities.

Extracurricular activities are an important part of student life at Villa Maria.
