Arts

This course introduces students to the principles of acting through practical exercises and reflection. Students learn the basics of character development, acting and improvisation techniques as well as the use of space, playwriting and analysis of texts. They learn the vocabulary and different occupations of the theatre world and develop their appreciation for theatrical works. The course further fosters the students’ independence, self-confidence, teamwork and imagination.

The visual arts program seeks the students’ overall development and cultural enrichment. It provides them with basic visual knowledge, helps them decode images, and see sensitively, leading them to develop their critical thinking and sense of aesthetics. This training is all the more important given that today’s culture is marked by the omnipresence of images. The students’ actions and choice of materials should reflect their desire to own and control the technical aspects of this field so as to represent, express and symbolize their vision of the world. Through creative projects and art appreciation, students explore traditional visual art techniques as well as digital technology tools.

This course focuses primarily on learning an instrument within a band. Students will have the opportunity to discover a varied repertoire and perform in a year-end concert presented in the Thérèse-Casgrain Hall. They will also get to develop their listening skills and musical appreciation as well as the use of the appropriate vocabulary. The primary objective of this course is the development of students’ auditory sensitivity, discrimination and memory. Through different musical eras, they will learn more about the composers who have impacted the history of music.
